Module 9: InformationRightManagement

SharePoint has the ability to tie into Windows RMS. This is configured on the Central Administration site and requires that you have the RMS Client installed. When setup correctly, document libraries will contain a custom action that allows you to configure IRM for each library. When using RMS, the documents will remain unencrypted in the content database, and will be encrypted when downloaded. This allows the indexing server to be able to index the content in the libraries for searching. As you will see on the next slide, SharePoint permissions map to IRM permissions.
