This 90-minute lab provides hands-on experience with the overall functionality of Internet Information Services 7.0 in Windows Server 2008.

IT Professionals currently experienced on the technologies included in Microsoft Windows Server 2000 and/or Windows Server 2003, and who hold an MCSE or MCSA certification and/or equivalent knowledge.

  • Manage and modify Websites and virtual directories in IIS 7.0
  • Use command-line and administrative tools to perform various tasks on your Web server
  • Create and modify application pools
  • Create a shared Web farm
  • Monitor your Web server through local and remote tools

Exercise 1: Managing Web Sites in IIS 7

After completing this module, students will be able to:

  • Stop a Website using Appcmd
  • Explore the Configuration of an Existing Website
  • Create a Virtual Directory
  • Start a Website using Appcmd
  • Display Website Information with Content View
  • Create a new Application pool using the Command-line
  • Change an Application Pool assigned to a Website
  • Start and Stop Application Pools
  • Recycle Application Pools
  • View Applications in an Application Pool
  • View Information about Worker Processes and Application Pool Settings

Exercise 2: Shared Web Server Configuration

After completing this module, students will be able to:

  • Back up the current ApplicationHost.config
  • Verify backup of ApplicationHost.config File
  • Restore ApplicationHost.config file
  • Create a user account for accessing the UNC share
  • Create the UNC shares for central configuration and content
  • Give permissions to the configuser Account for the UNC shares that will host the central configuration file and content
  • Create Logon Batch Configuration for User Accounts
  • Enable Shared Configuration
  • Test the Shared Configuration File

Exercise 3: Managing an IIS 7.0 Web Server

After completing this module, students will be able to:

  • Configure Management Service Page
  • Configure Feature Delegation
  • Enable IIS Users and Create a User
  • Delegate Control of the Woodgrove Bank Intranet Website
  • Experience with Windows Server 2000 and/or Windows Server 2003
  • MCSA/MCSA Certification or equivalent knowledge.
  • Experience managing Internet Information Services 6.0
