About This Hands-On Lab
Note: This is a companion lab for First Look Clinic 6410B - First Look: Getting Started with Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V.
This two-hour hands-on lab provides students with experience in using Microsoft Hyper-V to create and manage virtual machines and to query virtual information using the WMI provider.
Audience Profile
This lab is intended for IT professionals who would like to become familiar with managing virtual machines using Microsoft Hyper-V. You will begin by exploring the Microsoft Windows Virtualization Management tool and administering virtual machines. You will then work with a running virtual machine. Finally, you will use Windows PowerShell to query virtual machine information using the WMI provider.

After completing this course, students will be able to:
- Create and manage virtual machines.
- Query virtual machine information using Microsoft Windows PowerShell.

Exercise 1: Configuring Microsoft Hyper-V

- Open the Windows Virtualization Management Console
- Configure Virtualization Settings
- Create a New Virtual Network Switch
- Create a New Virtual Hard Disk
Exercise 2: Creating and Managing Virtual Machines
After completing this module, students will be able to:
- Create a New Virtual Machine
- Add a Hard Drive to the Virtual Machine
- Start a Virtual Machine
Exercise 3: Exploring Microsoft Hyper-V Using Windows PowerShell
After completing this module, students will be able to:
- Display Available Microsoft Hyper-V WMI Objects
- Explore Virtualization System Management Service
- Explore a Virtual Machine
- IT Professionals skilled on the technologies included in Windows Server 2000 and Windows Server 2003.
- Experience with Virtual Server 2005 or Virtual PC 2004/2007
